How does acupuncture work?

  • Acupuncture involves stimulating body walls like the skin and muscles to produce therapeutic effects.

  • Imagine the body has meridians where the Chi (energy)  flows.

  • If you hurt your back, the local muscle will become very tight. To restore the Chi flow, we have to put needles in the local area.....and put needles away from the back to restore Chi flow.

Acupuncture may help with managing symptoms, such as:

  • Pain

  • Muscular tension

  • Bloating

  • Poor sleep

  • Low mood, stress, fatigue

  • Hot flushes, night sweating

If you don’t like the idea of needles, we also provide acupressure and non-needle stimulation. These treatments apply pressure to acupuncture points but do not use needles.

Ear Acupressure

Ear acupressure (using ear seeds) is a technique that stimulates certain points on the ear to help treat a range of health conditions. In Chinese medicine theory, ear acupressure is a technique similar in principle to acupuncture. The ear is considered to be a microsystem that maps other areas of the body, similar to reflexology and iridology. Ear seeds are made of stainless steel, gold or silver. The seeds are held in place by a small plaster (like a Band-aid) and stay on the ear for about 2–3 days. They can be stimulated up to 10 times a day for about 30 seconds each time.
